Fayette County Gun Cluy News

Will attempt to keep everyone updated with weekly NEWS as its published and if and when I receive it.

( WB) 1 April 2008 - Activities for the month start on April 5 with the Austin Pistol Club (ALSPPC) hosting a USPSA format pistol match. All that is needed is a pistol, holster, 4 or 5 mags or speed loaders and 200 rounds of center fire ammo. You will not shoot all the ammo, but a little extra won't hurt. Your concealed carry or law enforcement rig will do just fine.

Saturday April 12 will have both the Skeet and Trap ranges blazing away. Trap will be the usual singles, handicap and doubles. Registration and first squad to the line at 10 AM.

The Skeet field will be available from 7:30 to 8:30 for practice. Registration will start at 8:00 hammer down at 9AM. We will shoot 28 gauge first and then .410 (for those who enjoy frustration) 100 targets each. Doubles will be thrown if there are at least three shooters who want doubles
.
Please accept my apology for not posting scores last month. It just slipped through the cracks even though our Web Master reminded me to get them out. I will try to do better this month.

April 27 will be the date for the ALSPPC "Steel Challenge" format match. this is really simple and can be shot with a .22LR. The entire course of fire is only 125 shots IF YOU DON'T MISS!!.

Bring 150 rounds and you should be good. A holster and a couple of magazines or speed loaders is enough.

Remember for all shooting activities (including .plinking with a 22LR) every one in the area of the shooting should wear eye and hearing protection. Hearing loss is insidious because you don't realize the loss.
You can't hear what you don't hear!!

(WB) 1 February 2008 - Saturday, February 2 we will have two events at the club with something for pistol and shotgun shooters..

The Austin Lone Star Practical Pistol Club (ALSPPC) will be holding an International Practical Shooting Confederation style pistol match starting at 9:30, but if you get there early you can help put up the stages. It is a lot of work, and all help is appreciated. For information on their club and events go to their web site www.alsppc.org A really good bunch of people and you will have a good time shooting. .

We will also be having the monthly ATA Trap shoot Saturday starting at 10AM so just drive through the pistol range traffic and come on in. The second trap shoot in February will be held on the 16th.  Let Mike know if you plan to attend so he can plan lunch .prisnmike@austin.rr.com  is his address.

The following Saturday the 9th we will  have the monthly NSSA skeet shoot. We will be shooting 100 targets each of 28 gauge and .410 bore. We will throw 50 or 100 doubles if there is time and three or more shooters are interested. This is the format that the shooters asked for alternating events with the 12 and 20. We offer doubles if there are enough shooters.
Let me know if you plan to attend so we can allow for lunch.

There will be a Steel Challenge shoot hosted by the ALSPPC will be on Sunday the 24th of February. This is a real fun event, and can be shot with anything from a .22 to a .45ACP.
It is a speed event, a very simple format  There are 5 bays each with 5 steel targets. At each bay you will shoot five groups of five shots reloading between each group. At the buzzer hit each target with one shot.   Your score is the total of the best 4 times in each bay. What could be simpler than that?

Hold center or follow through depending on your discipline

Thanks to the pistol shooters who are doing a good job of keeping the ranges neat and cleaned up. With the price of ammo going up it would appear more of the shooters are starting to reload.so you can shoot more on the same budget.

(WB) 29 March 2007 - The month started out with the ALSPPC having a big IPSC shoot. Forty one shooters came out almost double the turn out from last month. The two local shooters whose names I recognize were Jeff Rost and State Trooper Jerry Harris. Where are some other local shooters? This and the steel challenge are fun, and exciting sports. Also you get to meet other shooters and exchange ideas and learn more about gun handling.

March 10th was the NSSA sanctioned Skeet shoot. It was a beautiful day for a change with just enough wind to make things comfortable. I guess that it was such a beautiful day that every body did something else. Only 5 shooters came to the line but some good scores were posted.

Craig Oltmann won 12 gauge (49) in a shoot off with Mike Hessong (49) runner up
Hessong won the 20 gauge (50) with Harry Schellberg (46) runner up
Hessong won the 28 gauge (470 with Boyd smith (46) runner up
Hessong won the .410 bore (45) with Smith (40) runner up
Oltmann won doubles (49) with Hessong (46) runner up.

March 16 and 17 FCGC held its first 2 day shoot of the year. Thirteen shooters attended on Friday and eleven shooters on Saturday.
On Friday local shooters placed as follows;

Class “D”: winner Tommy Higgins (89)
Junior: winner Cody Bayer (92)
Sub Jr: winner Kross McCarty (85)

1st 100 Handicap
Short yardage winner: Wes McCullough (85)
Jr.: winner Cody Bayer (79)
Sub Jr.: winner McCarty (80)

2nd 100 Handicap
Short Yardage: winner Dave Vendel (89), runner up Clarence Bayer (84)
Junior: Cody Bayer

On Saturday the 17 local winners were as follows

1st 100 Handicap
Short yardage: runner up Schellberg (82)

2nd 100 Handicap
Short yardage: Vendel (84)

On March 25 ALSPPC held their monthly Steel Challenge match, with 10 shooters competing.
James Foote from Austin won with a total time of 59.98 seconds.
Trooper Jerry Harris placed 5th with a total time of 104.43 seconds
Steel Challenge is a lot of fun to shoot as it is fast and easy.
The basics are simple and anyone can play: The shooter stands in front of five steel targets. At the sound of the buzzer, they shoot four in any order, then a designated stop plate last. This is repeated five times and then move on to the next series of 5 targets.

The shooting is pretty easy; the hardest target may be a ten-inch disk at eighteen yards, you get as many shots as you want, and hitting it anywhere counts.

You also get to throw out your worst run on every stage. How much easier could it get?

The trick is as soon as the buzzer sounds, the clock starts and it doesn't stop until you hit the stop plate.

Once you get done with all your runs, the times are added up and the lowest time wins.
The steel challenge can be shot with any caliber including a .22, so now there is no excuse not to shoot.
I will warn you however, this is a habit forming kind of match; you will want to come back time after time.

(WB) 1 March 2007 - Things have been humming at the club this past month. The ALSPPC held their first all out IPSC match Saturday the 3rd. with 26 shooters coming out to compete. There were five stages that varied from a quick 9 shots to a hot barrel 32 shots. All of the courses were very straight forward, nothing tricky and only one stage had a moving target which I missed…twice.

The two local shooters were and myself and State Trooper Jerry Harris. I am not exactly sure how we placed as I am still trying to figure out the classification and scoring system.  This game is a lot of fun, not complicated and a very good learning platform. Look at a target, shoot it twice and move on. I highly recommend this game to any hand gun shooter in La Grange. All it takes is a gun of 9 M/M or larger caliber either a pistol or revolver. A holster and 4 magazines or speed loaders. Membership in FCGC or ALSPPC is not needed. The course of fire took 107 shots to complete if you did not need to shoot a knockdown steel target more than once. For more information see their web site at www.alsppc.org

.

March 10th was cold, windy and generally miserable. Only 4 shooters came to enjoy the great outdoors and some hard to hit NSSA registered targets. Craig Oltmann was the only local shooter present. He won the 12 gauge event with a 49 and won the doubles with a 49. Since he usually shoots a 50 I am afraid he is in somewhat of a slump in this shooting. I am sure he will be back on his game next month and start averaging up to AAA in 12 gauge and doubles

The weekend of February 17 we had our monthly ATA sanctioned Trap shoot. The temperature was a little more agreeable than the previous week, but the wind made the shooting tough. Lunch was prepared by Dave Vendel and I am told he is being considered for a permanent promotion to Class “A” stew maker. Thanks also to Ken McCarty for scoring and all the other volunteers for helping. Among the 19 shooters were visitors from Hondo, Brian, Buda, San Antonio, Round Rock, Katy, Bastrop, and Ozona. There were 14 entries in handicap and Donna Mathers would have earned a punch, which she richly deserved, if only one more shooter had stepped to the line.

February 25th the ALSPPC presented the “Steel Challenge” with, I believe, fifteen shooters present. The Steel Challenge is a very interesting and very fast event. It is uncomplicated but exciting with five courses of fire each consisting of four targets and a stop target. Each course is usually shot five times with the best four scores posted. Where is the challenge you may ask? Each set of target may be hit in any order, the stop target last, against the clock. Those little steel circles may look simple but they are NOT simple especially with that clock hanging right over your shoulder. Local shooters were Ed Kubos and daughter Karen, Trooper Jerry Harris, Jeff Rost, and I.  It is different from the IPSC style match, but is fun to watch, more fun to shoot.

Here are the range schedules for the present. For starting times and other information check the FCGC web site or the ALSPPC web site.

We are now shooting ALSPPC USPSA style pistol competition on the first Saturday, NSSA Skeet on the second Saturday, and ATA Trap on the third Saturday. ALSPPC Steel Challenge the fourth Sunday of each month. You do not have to be a member of FCGC or ALSPPC to enter and compete in these events.

.

Ranges are open Tuesday and  Thursday afternoons and Saturday all day. Guests and visitors are welcome to come and visit or shoot.

For any other question contact Wallie at 979-242-3389

The October Skeet shoot was held the 14th with Jason Nester and Boyd Smith as Match Directors. We had 10 shooters who enjoyed a beautiful day to shoot with moderate temperatures and just enough wind to keep things comfortable.

Lunch was grilled hamburgers courtesy of Jason Nester acting as chef.

The next skeet shoot will be November 11--- the usual format starting at 8:30.  This is the first shoot of the year, so come early, bring plenty of ammo, and shoot a lot.

I want to remind members that the new gun club year has started, and dues are payable. The lock combination has changed, so if you want to use the range, get your membership paid up. We will go to winter hours when the time changes.  The new times are 1-5PM Tuesday and Thursday and 9AM to 6PM Saturday..

(WB) 24 August 2006 - The August 12th "Sweat and Shoot" Registered Skeet Shoot had two squads of shooters, and there was a considerable amount of both sweating and shooting done.  Mike Hessong of Victoria cleaned house by winning the 12 gauge (47), 20 gauge (49), 28 gauge (49), and .410 bore (48).  He was also High Overall and High All Around winner with a 193 and 239 respectively.

Who, you might ask, won the doubles event? Well, Jonathan Masic a 4H sub-junior shooter, shooting his very first ever registered doubles event, dropped only one bird and won with a 49-- a full three targets ahead of the class “A” Hessong.  Jonathan becomes the first club member to hold class AAA in any event, much less doubles.  Jonathan, along with some other of the 4H group, shoot skeet, trap, country doubles, and any thing else that will sail through the air.

All of the scores are posted on the web site and all of the places and concurrent winners will be posted in a future copy of “The Skeet Shooting Review”.

Shooters at the ATA Sanctioned Trap Event on August 19th had a much better day.  Overcast skies with a spat of rain, with a little breeze made temperatures slightly more comfortable. All in all, 4300 targets were thrown.   Joining the local shooters were contestants from Katy, Buda, Hondo, San Antonio, and Bryan. We also signed up  two new ATA members, Colton Parnes from San Antonio and Boyd Smith (!!), a local shooter. Award patches were given to Parnes for a 25 straight in his first registered match. Larry Muennink earned a 50 straight patch and Craig Oltmann a 25 straight patch..

The scores were:
Singles
Class “A”:  Jim Schmidt and Ronny Beard tie (97)
Class “B”:  Muennink (98), Dave Vendel (89)
Class “C”:  Donna Mathers (91), Jason Nester (89)
Class “D:  Schellberg (89) Jay Buckler (84)
Junior:  Cody Bayer (96)
Sub-Jr.:  Parnes and Kross McCarty tie (86)
Vet:  Smith (77)

Handicap
Short:  Muennink (91), Schellberg (90)
Mid:  Beard (90)
Long:  Mike McFarlin (86), Schmidt (81)

1st 100 Doubles
Class “A”:  McFarlin
Class “C”:  Muennink (91), Vendel (85)
Class “D”:  Buckler (79), Nester (76)

Second 100 Doubles
Class “A”:  McFarlin (92)
Class “C”:  Vendel (85), Wes McCullough (83)
Class “D”:  Mathers (84)
Junior:  Bayer (87)

It was good to see the young shooters come out.  We just need more of them. It is said that practice makes perfect, but competition makes character.  Perfect is good, but character is what counts when things get tough.  Two good examples of this are Parnes with his 25 straight and Masik with his 42 straight after dropping that one in skeet doubles.

Don’t forget the FPP/LCRA Relay for Life Fun Shoot benefiting the American Cancer Society this Saturday.  Even if you didn’t get signed up in time come out and see the fun you missed.  This will give you and idea of what you missed and to start practicing  for next year.

We are happy to see not only the oldster senior veterans shooting, but junior and sub junior shooters shooting very commendable scores. Macik, Bayer, and McCarty also are shooting skeet, so they are enjoying both sides of the range.

August 12th will be the day of the “Sweat ‘n Shoot” skeet open.  It will be the same 50 target format as last month and most likely just as hot.  Registration starts at 8AM with the first event, the28 gauge, starting at 8:30.  Lunch will be provided, but bring your own liquid replenishment

The next Trap shoot will be August 19th with the usual singles, doubles, and handicap targets..

As you have seen, the pistol ranges have gotten a big overhaul with new berms courtesy of Ken McCarty, a parking area, and a storage building. In the fall we expect to have some shooting matches using the International Practical Shooting Confederation format.  It can be best described as “run and gun and fun- fun- fun” style shooting. VP Harry Schellberg is looking for a few (or many) good men (and women) who will help in building the props needed for this type of match. Contact him or post an answer on the forum page of the web site.

The schedule for the next skeet season, which starts in November, will be submitted this week. Plans are to request the second Saturday of each month for our shoot dates. We also plan to keep the 50 target four gauge and doubles format which seems to be increasing in popularity. There will be more information on this schedule after September 9th.

The range hours are 3 PM to 7 PM Tuesday and Thursday and 10 AM until 7PM Saturday.
The range is located 3 ½ miles past the fairgrounds on highway 77 north. Look for the big orange disk on the east side of the highway.

(WB) 10 July, 2006 - The Fayette County Gun Club has been shooting both Skeet and Trap along with a lot of other activities. The shoot to raise funds for the 4H Shooting Program was a big success with a lot of shooters coming out to help the kids along.  We have had some junior and sub-junior shooters come out for both Skeet and Trap shoots.  It is good to see them start now, because this is a life sport, and those youngsters will still be shooting 50 or more years from now.

The skeet shoot on July 8th only got 5 shooters out in the heat and humidity, but some terrific scores were turned in. Zac Crawford shot a 50 straight in the 12 gauge competition with Harry Schellberg (48) only 2 targets behind.

The 20 gauge was won by Crawford (48) with Tom Donahue runner up with a 47.

In the little gun category the 28 gauge was won by Ron Benefield (45) with Donahue (43) winning a shoot-off with Schellberg (43) for runner up.

.410 bore saw Donahue (46) win while Schellberg (40) finally bested Benefield (40) in a very long shoot-off for the runner up spot. Ties are broken by shooting doubles from station 3, 4, and 5.  This is tough with a 12 gauge, and is really tough with the pee wee gun.

All the scores with places and concurrent wins are posted on the home page under SKEET RESULTS.

The next skeet shoot will be August 12. The date of the next trap shoot is July 15th.

The next Trap shoot will be April 15th starting at 10 AM as usual. Hopefully some more Skeet shooters will join us and give the “regulars” a little competition.

April 8th is the date of the next NSSA sanctioned Skeet shoot. We will start registration at 8:00 with the first squad to the line as soon as we have 5 shooters. The schedule will be the usual 28, .410, 20, 12, and doubles throwing 50 targets in each event. Lunch will be served and it will be hard to top the excellent lunch the Trap shooters served.

Memberships in NSSA and TSSA are available at the range. New shooters who have never shot registered skeet will get a complimentary first year membership in both NSSA and TSSA. All it takes to compete is a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun with an open choke and a few boxes of dove loads.

Our range is located 3 ½ miles north of the fairgrounds on highway 77. The range is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and all day Saturday. Guests are welcome and memberships are available. Come see our new pistol ranges that are almost finished. Some big things will happen there very soon.

(WB) 2 March 2006 - On Saturday, February 25, 2006, Fayette County Gun Club hosted an ATA registered trapshoot.  We had guests Donna Mathers of San Antonio and Charles McCleary and Jimmy Moore of Ozona drive a long way through bad weather to join us for our shoot.  Unfortunately the weather didn’t clear up early enough for them to shoot before they had to head home.  Club member Barry Shepard joined ATA Saturday and will start his assault on AA in March.   The rain let up enough for us to start shooting at 12:30, and the shooters were able to fire at 2000 targets.  Here are the results of the shoot:

1st 100 Singles

Class B:  winner Clarence Bayer (92), runner-up Dave Vendel (91)

Class D:  winner Don Patton (92), runner-up Harry Schellberg (77)

This Friday and Saturday we will host the FEC/ FPP/ LCRA Fun shoot, and fun it will be! The ranges look a little rough because of the dirt work going on, but the targets will fly. Something new this year are the “rabbit” target and the “dove tower” target coming from overhead.  This will not be a day off, but should provide thrills a plenty. Even if you didn’t sign up for the shooting (shame on you), come out and enjoy the fun.  The group that put this on does a bang up job with food available and prizes for winners.

We will have the monthly ATA trap shoot March 25th:  the usual singles, doubles, and handicap. We really would like to see some of the junior shooters come out and give Cody a little competition. I really don’t need any senior veterans to come out because I’m dancing as fast as I can to stay above 80.

The pistol ranges are in construction as you will notice, and as soon as they are completed, we will be putting on some kind of competitive shoot. Were not sure exactly what, that depends on Michael and what he can organize, but we will have something. Starting with something simple and slowly move to the more complex..

Range hours are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Saturday all day.

(WB) 14 February 2006 - Those of you that missed the shoot last Saturday missed the thrill of a
lifetime. In San Antonio last August when these shoots were scheduled, the "Blue Norther" name caused some chuckles from the scheduling group. That name was a dead solid on because not only was it cold, but the north wind caused great distress to all shooters. We had high house birds hitting the low house range marker and low house birds going straight up. "Eye on the target" was the word for the day. The other word was "Did you see that?" None the less, we had thirteen shooters come out, and some fairly good scores were turned in considering the wind and cold. The scores are also
posted under the SKEET RESULTS link, but here are the winners and runner-ups in each event.

12 gauge winner: David Radnez (47), runner up Mike Hessong (44)
20 gauge winner: Hessong (48), runner up Tom Donahue (47)
28 gauge winner: Jason Nester (48), runner up Boyd Smith (45)
.410 bore winner: Nester (44), runner up Donald Buckley (44)
Doubles winner: Hessong (44), runner up Robert Guilliams (38)
High Over All: Nester (180) runner up Hessong (177)

Our next shoot will be April 8th the "POW Remembrance" 4X50 so plan now. We also have shoots scheduled on the second Saturday of May and June, so mark the calendar now.

The regular monthly ATA trap shoot is scheduled for February 25, featuring singles, doubles and handicap targets. The shoot stasrts at 10:00 AM. Jim Cowan and Mike McFarlin always put on a good shoot. No special gun is needed, just a 12 gauge and 4 boxes of 7 ½ shot hunting loads. Good fun and practice for the Fun Shoot coming up March 3 and 4.

Just as we were shutting down Saturday afternoon, there was a roar, a crash and a big yellow bulldozer came out of the woods and started removing the trees that make up the background on the skeet range. There will be over 7000 yards of dirt moved from behind the skeet, five stand, and trap ranges to expand the pistol range to four bays. If the weather cooperates, it will be done by this weekend, and we will announce a work day for pistol shooters to come out and replace the target boards and to help set up the bays.

Those shooters who are interested in IPSC style shooting will be notified and there will be a meeting and hopefully a demonstration of the game to get that organized. I have done it and it is "fun with a gun" and a good way to really become proficient with a handgun. If you have questions about this
shooting discipline go to www.ipsc.org and link to the videos of matches. Don't be afraid to post a message on our web site forum section and Michael or I will give an answer.

There are even more things in the planning stage, so expect this club to turn into a premier shooting establishment that Fayette County can be proud of.

Membership in FCGC is not required to shoot in any of the Trap or Skeet matches that the club holds. Visitors and guests are welcome any time and will find friendly helpful people who will be glad to show guests the "how to do" of the game. We won't laugh at you, so don't be shy. Shooting stuff is fun whether it is a rifle, pistol, or shotgun and there is no better place to have fun in this area than to shoot at the Fayette County Gun Club.

Tuesday Thursday afternoon and all day Saturday the ranges are open to the public. The rifle and pistol ranges are open to members at all times; just remember to shoot safely and properly at the targets, not the trees.

(WB) 7 February 2006 - Get ready for big things at the gun club because there are a lot of changes in the works.

There will be an NSSA-sanctioned Skeet Shoot Saturday the 11th with registration starting at 8:30AM. The first squad will go to the line as soon there after as possible. The format will be the usual 28, .410, 20, and 12, with doubles after lunch. If you have never competed at skeet, here is a fine time and place to start. I would especially like to see some of the “Shooting Stars” come out and show their stuff.

The monthly Trap Shoot will be held February 25. Shooting will start at 10AM. The shooting schedule will present singles, doubles and handicap. As long as three shooters will come to the line, targets will be thrown.

There was an extra special ATA Shoot Saturday the 4th. With a nice sunny day with moderate winds and temperatures, there was no excuse for missing, but plenty were offered.

Practice fields for the Fayette Electric Cooperative and Fayette Power Project/LCRA Fun Shoot should be open by Saturday the 18th. I will have more information on this next week, but practice will be needed. This is a different format than that used in the past, with a lot of very different targets. See their web site www.fayette.coop/funshoot for information, course of fire and entry forms.

By the middle of the month, you will see some dirt work going on at the pistol range. The whole area is going to be rebuilt, enlarged into four shooting bays, and made safer with higher, wider berms.  I hope the pistol shooters will appreciate the work being done and will make an effort to keep the ranges clean and the target frames in good shape.

One of our members, Michael Wynhoff, is organizing a planning committee to hold pistol competition under the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) format. It is a really fun competition and can be shot with an ordinary “box stock” pistol in 9m/m or larger caliber. It is great fun, fast, high volume, hot barrel action. For more information about the sport, the IPSC web site is www.ipsc.org. There will be more on this as the range develops. If you would like to help get this sport started, or would like more information about it, let me know at wb78963@yahoo.com or call 979 242 3389.

We are located 3 ½ miles north of the fairgrounds on highway 77. Our range hours are Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and all day Saturday.

This will be in addition to the regular monthly Saturday match. Any shooter who wants to put in their thoughts can come to the next match or post comments on the forum.

Range officers are needed for the month of December. It is not hard work, and you do not need to be a clay target shooter, just a member willing to help the club keep going. More information on this and other activities of the club are on the web site.

(WB) 22 November 2005 - The NSSA Sanctioned Skeet Shoot held at the Fayette County Gun Club November 12th showed some exceptional shooting. We had nice weather with only a
little wind and moderate temperatures.

Winners by gauge were as follows:

12 gauge Champion: Zac Crawford (50), runner up Dustin Holmes (49), third Mike Hessong (48)

20 gauge Champion: Holmes (50) runner up, Crawford (49), third Tom Donahue (48)

28 gauge Champion: Holmes (49), runner up Dennis Saathoff (48), third Hessong (46)

.410 bore Champion: Holmes (49), runner up Hessong (47), third Saathoff (44)

Doubles Champion: Crawford (49), runner up Holmes (47), third J. P. Pritko (39)

There were a lot of very good scores shot Saturday, and competition was very hot.

Crawford shot a 50 straight in the 12 gauge event.
Holmes shot a 50 straight in the 20 gauge event.
Saathoff shot a 25 straight in 12 gauge.
Crawford shot a 25 straight in 20 gauge and a 26 straight in the second round of doubles. (Doubles are shot in two rounds one of 24 targets and the second of 26 targets)
Hessong shot a 25 straight in 28 gauge.
Holmes shot a 25 straight in 28 gauge and in 410 bore

Holmes won high over all with a 196/200, and he won the case of 12 gauge ammunition donated by Jack Cook of Marina, California.

A new shooter, John Walters of Katy, came to shoot with us. It was his second registered match--the first being the Junior Word Shoot held a short time ago. John is a sub-junior shooter (under the age of 14) and is about as tall as his 20 gauge shot gun, and wouldn't weigh 70 pounds with his shoes full of #9 shot. That being said, he shoots like a pro and posted a very creditable 43 in the 20 gauge event. That's only 7 targets from perfect so look out, boys, here he comes!

All the class and concurrent winners will be published in the Skeet Review Magazine in a about two months.

There will be an ATA sanctioned trap shoot this Saturday the 26th and one on December 17th.

We are now in our winter hours 1PM until 5 Pm Tuesday and Thursday, and from 9AM until 6 PM Saturday. Guests and visitors are always welcome, so please come out and see the best shooting facility in the area.

(WB) 11 October 2005The Fayette County Gun Club will have their first annual meeting October
18th at 7 pm.  The meeting will be held in the Home Demonstration Building at the Fair Grounds. There will be a lot going on, including the election  of new officers.  It is important for all members to attend and have a voice in what the club will be doing this coming year and to discuss what new events
you would like to have. This will be an opportunity to renew your membership if it has lapsed. The gate combination has changed, so if you want to use the ranges, be sure to be there.

The last NSSA Registered Skeet Shoot of this shooting year was held last Saturday. We only had 7 shooters attend, but the competition was hot and heavy. We had two new out of town visitors, Bill Barnhill of Victoria, Texas, and Jack Cook of Marina, California. Jack came to Texas for the
World Championship Shoot in San Antonio, and decided to "warm up" here with us. After shoot offs in the 20 gauge, .410 bore, and for high overall he felt very warmed indeed.  Jack also donated a flat of 12 gauge shells to be awarded to the HOA winner at our next skeet shoot.

The winners of Saturday's shoot are as follows:

12 gauge Champion: Jason Nester (49), runner up Cook (48), 3rd Dennis Marshall (48)

20 Gauge Champion:  Marshall (49), runner up Mike Waldorff (47), 3rd Nester (46)

 28 gauge Champion:  Cook ((48), runner up Nester (47), 3rd Marshall (45)

 .410 bore Champion:  Waldorff (450, runner up Nester (44), 3rd Cook (44)

Doubles, Champion:   Nester (45), runner up Cook (45), 3rd Crawford (45)

High Over All, Cook (186), runner up Nester (186), 3rd Marshall (185)

We will host an ATTA Sanctioned Trap Shoot October 29th to take the place of the hurricane wash out last month. There will be singles, doubles, and handicap targets thrown depending on shooter request. Please notify Mike McFarlin via the web site if you plan to attend. Mike needs that
information for planning lunch.

The next NSSA Sanctioned Skeet Shoot will be November 12th using the usual four gauge, fifty target, and doubles format.

We will start our winter hours beginning in November. Times and days will be posted here.

(WB) 14 September 2005 - Better late than never, the Labor Day Trap shoot results are here.  The late date is not the fault of the Match Director Jim Cowan.  I was off the reservation and did not get this report ready until now.

A new record of 5050 targets was thrown, and three new shooters came out to compete. Clarence Bayer, his son Cody, and Karla McCullough came to the line to shoot. Now we need some more lady and junior shooters to give these classes some competition.  This invitation does not apply to senior veteran shooters, however.  I can’t handle any competition.

Dave (1/2 yard) Vendel earned another ½ yard in the handicap trap competition. At this rate he will be shooting Handicap from behind the pavilion. Good going, Dave, and keep it up.

Tommy Higgins provided the big lunch which was needed since the shooting started at 10 AM and continued until 7PM.

There is another Trap Shoot scheduled for September 24th .
